Process

I draw inspiration from the interconnectedness of the world around us.  Particularly the symmetry found in insect and animals forms but also the asymmetrical flowing forms of trees and rocks.  I enjoy focusing on surfaces and textures, whether visual or tactile.

My sculptures begin with clay slabs and coils, refined through carving and then burnishing for a smooth silky finish that is perfect to capturethe flames and smoke patterns during an outdoor barrel firing.  The results are forms that have been kissed by flames leaving flashes of colour reminiscent of the galaxy or ocean currents and eddies.
